Send alerts to Discord
Post alert fires to a Discord channel with a webhook you control.
What you need
A Discord server where you can manage webhooks (Discord's Manage Webhooks permission).
Make a webhook
Discord's steps: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/228383668-Intro-to-Webhooks
- In Discord, open Server Settings, then Integrations.
- Create a webhook. Choose the channel it posts to and give it a name, like Droppin' Eaves. (TODO: confirm button labels in current Discord; older help says "Create Webhook".)
- Copy the webhook URL.
Connect
- Open Configure, Sources tab. In the top row, pick Discord.
- Webhook URL: paste it.
- Click Confirm (the check mark).
Or paste the webhook into Chat when we ask where to notify you.
What happens next
When an alert fires, we post it to that channel. If you set quiet hours in Settings, posts wait and go out as one digest when the quiet window ends. The inbox (the bell in the header) always shows alerts right away. Settings, Sent lists what went out.
Common problems
- Nothing posted: no alert has fired yet. No alerts, no posts. Check Settings, Sent and your quiet hours.
- Posts stopped after you deleted the webhook in Discord: make a new one and paste it on the row. The new URL replaces the saved one.
What we can and can't do
- Can: post alerts to one channel per webhook.
- Can't: read anything from your server. Discord only receives alerts from us.
Privacy
- Anyone with the webhook URL can post to that channel, so treat it like a password. We store it encrypted.
- To stop: Settings, Channels lets you Pause, Remove, or Revoke (forget the saved webhook). To kill the webhook itself, delete it in Discord under Server Settings, Integrations.
