Watch a GitHub repository
Stars, forks, issues, pull requests, releases, and commits — plus views and clones when you Connect.
What you need
- The repo's URL, like https://github.com/owner/repo.
- For private repos, views or clones: a GitHub account that can see the repo. Views and clones also need push access to it.
Connect
- Open Configure, Sources tab. In the top row, pick GitHub.
- Repository: paste https://github.com/owner/repo (owner/repo works too).
- Monitor: check what you want on your dashboard. Commits take an optional Branch (HEAD means the default branch). Issues and pull requests take a State (Open, Closed, All).
- Public repo and no views or clones? Click Confirm (the check mark). You're done.
- Private repo, views or clones, or you're hitting rate limits? Click Connect GitHub and select Authorize on GitHub. You land back on the same row; click Confirm.
Organization repos: if the org restricts OAuth apps, GitHub asks an owner to approve us. Request it from GitHub, Settings, Applications, Authorized OAuth Apps, then our app, then Request access next to the org. Steps: https://docs.github.com/en/account-and-profile/setting-up-and-managing-your-personal-account-on-github/managing-your-membership-in-organizations/requesting-organization-approval-for-oauth-apps
What happens next
About once an hour (your plan may check less often) we update your dashboards:
- Stars, Forks, Open issue count and Watchers (real watchers, not stars).
- Issues, Pull requests, Releases and Commits: the 25 newest of each.
- Views and Clones: GitHub's rolling last-14-day totals, with unique viewers and cloners.
Two repos? Add two rows.
Common problems
- Views or Clones fail with a 403: you need push access to the repo, and you need to Connect.
- A private repo isn't found: Connect GitHub. For org repos, the org may still need to approve us (above).
- Rate limited: without Connect we share GitHub's small public allowance. Connect GitHub to use your own.
- "Reconnect GitHub. The refresh token was rejected.": click Reconnect GitHub on the row.
- Pull requests show up under Issues: that's how GitHub lists issues. Check Pull requests to see PRs on their own.
What we can and can't watch
- Can: everything in Monitor, for one repo per row.
- Can't: Actions runs, discussions, code contents, or anything older than the 25 newest items. We never write to GitHub.
Privacy
- Connect is optional. Public repos work without it.
- Connect grants GitHub's
reposcope, which GitHub defines as full access to your public and private repositories. GitHub has no read-only or traffic-only option for this. We only make read requests, for the repo on the row. Scope details: https://docs.github.com/en/apps/oauth-apps/building-oauth-apps/scopes-for-oauth-apps - We store the access encrypted. It is never sent to an AI model.
- To stop: remove the row in Configure (the minus button). Removing your last connected GitHub row deletes our stored access. To revoke at GitHub too, go to Settings, Applications, Authorized OAuth Apps, and revoke Droppin' Eaves: https://github.com/settings/applications
