Watch a Gmail search

Match mail by sender, subject, or label and see the hits on your dashboard. Search Console is a separate connection.

What you need

  • A Google account with Gmail.

The "Google hasn't verified this app" screen

Google hasn't finished reviewing Droppin' Eaves yet, so it shows this warning before the permission screen. That's expected. Choose Advanced, then the "Go to ... (unsafe)" link to reach the permission screen. (TODO: confirm the exact link text and the app name Google displays.)

Connect

  1. Open Configure, Sources tab. In the top row, pick Gmail.
  2. Click Connect Gmail. Google opens.
  3. Choose your Google account, get past the unverified-app screen, and allow read access to Gmail.
  4. You land back on the same row in Configure.
  5. Say what to watch:

- Search query: any Gmail search, for example from:f5bot newer_than:2d. If you didn't set one, we start with in:inbox newer_than:2d. Search tips: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7190 - Or use the builder fields: Folder, From, Subject contains, Contains, Newer than, plus To, Unread only, Has attachment and Label under Advanced. These replace the query when you use them. - Monitor: which lists to show (Matching titles, Recent senders, Body snippets).

  1. Click Confirm (the check mark).

What happens next

We run your search about once an hour (your plan may check less often) and keep the 25 newest matches. They show on your dashboards. To get a ping when new matching mail arrives, add an alert on Configure, Alerts tab.

Common problems

  • A work or school account is blocked: your Google Workspace admin may limit third-party apps. Ask them, or use another account.
  • Configure says "Connect was cancelled" or "Connect did not finish": click Connect Gmail on that row again.
  • "Reconnect Gmail. The refresh token was rejected.": you removed our access at Google or changed your Google password. Click Reconnect Gmail on the row.
  • No matches: try the query in Gmail's own search box first. Newer than keeps the 25 matches recent.

What we can and can't watch

  • Can: subject, sender, date and Gmail's short preview snippet for the 25 newest messages that match your search.
  • Can't: full message bodies or attachments. We can't send, delete, label or change mail. We only see the Google account you connected.
  • Connecting Gmail doesn't connect Search Console. Logging in to Droppin' Eaves with Google doesn't give us Gmail access.

Privacy

  • You grant Google's read-only Gmail permission. Google's wording covers reading your mail; we only ask Gmail for the From, Subject and Date of matching messages plus Gmail's snippet.
  • We store the access encrypted. It is never sent to an AI model. Tick "Hide from inference" on the row to also swap your mail's contents for lookalikes when the assistant writes your dashboard.
  • To stop: remove the row in Configure (the minus button). Removing your last Gmail row deletes our stored access. To revoke at Google too, open https://myaccount.google.com/connections, choose Droppin' Eaves, then Remove access. Steps: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/13533235
