Watch a public web page
Track a price, status line, or changelog on any public HTTPS page. No account needed.
What you need
A public HTTPS page where the thing you want is in the page itself.
Connect
- Open Configure, Sources tab. In the top row, pick Web page.
- Page URL: paste the https:// address.
- What (optional): say it in plain words, like "the price" or "changelog entries". We read the page once and work out where it is.
- Advanced (optional): Watch — one thing vs a list — and Selector if you already know the CSS (see below). Leave them blank and we infer from What.
- Click Confirm (the check mark).
Two pages, or two things on one page? Add a row for each.
What happens next
Once a day we fetch the page and pull out what you asked for:
- One thing, a number (like $1,842): charted over time.
- One thing, text: shown as the current status, with a log of every change.
- A list: new items appear as they're added.
Alerts on the Alerts tab can fire on a number crossing a threshold, new list items, or a status change.
Common problems
- We say we couldn't find anything: the value is probably added by JavaScript after the page loads. We read the page as delivered and don't run a browser, so it isn't there for us. Look for another page (or a feed) that has it.
- The page is blocked: we can't fetch private network addresses or sites on our legal blocklist.
- It picked the wrong thing: say What more precisely, or add a Selector.
- A feed URL (RSS / Atom) belongs on the RSS / Atom row instead.
Advanced (optional)
Watch forces cardinality: One thing (a price, a status) or A list of things (posts, changelog entries). Leave it unset and we choose from What and the page.
Selector names the one node to watch (One thing) or each repeated item (A list), not the whole page. It's a small CSS subset, not whatever DevTools copies. A class or an id is usually enough, and you can paste class names without the dot.
- Class:
.pricematches<div class="price">$1,842</div> - Pasted class:
stat-value - Id:
#statusfor<p id="status">All systems operational</p> - Tag (a list):
articleis each post, not the page wrapper - Inside an item:
article > h2(direct child) orarticle h2(anywhere inside) - Position:
div:nth-of-type(1)ordiv:firstamong sibling divs - Attribute:
a[href]for a link,time[datetime]for a timestamp
Several classes on the same node: .price.sale. A space means "inside", not "next to". Not supported: div + p, div ~ p, :not, , :nth-child, [href=...].
If What is empty and Watch + Selector match the page, we use them directly (Selector alone defaults to One thing). If you fill What, we work it out from your words even when Advanced fields are set.
What we can and can't watch
- Can: one value or one list per row from a public page's HTML.
- Can't: pages behind a login, values drawn by JavaScript, plain http:// pages, or private network addresses.
Privacy
No account access and nothing secret is stored. We fetch the page from our servers like any visitor would.
