GuidesRSS / Atom
Follow an RSS or Atom feed
New items from a public blog, release feed, or Google Alerts feed show up on your dashboard.
What you need
A public HTTPS feed URL. Feed addresses usually contain /rss, /atom, /feeds/ or end in .xml.
Connect
- Open Configure, Sources tab. In the top row, pick RSS / Atom.
- Feed URL: paste the feed address.
- Click Confirm (the check mark).
Google Alerts can deliver as a feed: set the alert to deliver to an RSS feed, then copy the feed link. (TODO: verify the exact Google Alerts option; Google's help only documents email delivery: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/4815696)
What happens next
We check the feed on a schedule (up to every minute, depending on your plan). New items appear on your dashboards, along with a count of items per check. Alerts on the Alerts tab can fire when new items arrive.
Common problems
- A normal web page URL doesn't work here: pick Web page instead, or paste it on Any and say what you want.
- Watching keywords across the web (like F5Bot)? Those arrive by email, so use the Gmail row with a search for those emails.
- The feed is blocked: we can't fetch private network addresses or sites on our legal blocklist.
What we can and can't watch
- Can: new items in one public RSS or Atom feed per row.
- Can't: feeds behind a login, plain http:// feeds, or a keyword search with no feed.
Privacy
No account access and nothing secret is stored. We fetch the feed from our servers like any reader app.
