GuidesServer Reachable

Know when a server goes down

Uptime checks for a public https:// or wss:// endpoint, with optional alerts when it fails.

What you need

An https:// URL or a wss:// URL that's reachable from the public internet.

Connect

  1. Open Configure, Sources tab. In the top row, pick Server Reachable.
  2. URL: paste the https:// or wss:// address.
  3. Click Confirm (the check mark).

What happens next

We check on a schedule (up to every minute, depending on your plan) and show Reachable as up or down on your dashboards. Add an alert on the Alerts tab to hear about it when it goes down.

  • https: up when a secure connection opens and the server answers anything, even an error page (4xx or 5xx). Down on a timeout, a refused connection, or a DNS failure.
  • wss: a quick handshake check. We don't hold the socket open.

Common problems

  • An http://, bare IP, or ping target is rejected: we only check https:// and wss:// addresses.
  • The row shows an error instead of "down": the address is private or on our blocklist, so we won't check it at all.
  • Down but the site works for you: it may be blocking our servers, or only reachable on your network.

What we can and can't watch

  • Can: up or down for one URL per row.
  • Can't: response times, page contents (use Web page), ping (ICMP), or plain http://.

Privacy

No account access and nothing secret is stored. We connect from our servers like any visitor.
