GuidesSteam Financials (wishlists)
Track Steam wishlists and sales
Daily wishlist adds, deletes, purchases, and gifts for one of your games on Steam.
What you need
- Your app id: the number in your store URL (store.steampowered.com/app/<app id>/).
- A Financial Web API key from Steamworks. Only a Steamworks admin can create one. If that isn't you, your admins are listed on your Steamworks home page.
Get the key
Valve's reference: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/webapi/IPartnerFinancialsService
- Sign in to Steamworks as an admin.
- Go to Users & Permissions, then Manage Groups.
- Create a new Financial API Group. (TODO: confirm the exact button and option names in Steamworks.)
- Open the new group's page and copy the Financial Web API key shown there.
- Leave the group's IP whitelist empty. Our servers don't have a fixed IP address, so a whitelist blocks us.
A dedicated group just for Droppin' Eaves means you can revoke this key without touching other tools.
Connect
- Open Configure, Sources tab. In the top row, pick Steam Financials.
- App id: the digits, or paste your store or community /app/ URL.
- Day: Yesterday (GMT) is a finished day (the default). Today (GMT) may still be filling.
- Group Web API key: paste the key.
- Click Confirm (the check mark).
What happens next
Once a day we read that GMT day's wishlist summary and show four numbers on your dashboards: Wishlist adds, Wishlist deletes, Wishlist purchases and Wishlist gifts. These are that day's actions, not a running total. Steam refreshes this data at least once a day.
Common problems
- Authorization error: the key isn't from a Financial API Group. A personal Steam Community key or a regular publisher key won't work.
- Blocked even with the right key: the group has an IP whitelist. Clear it on the group's page (Manage WebAPI Key section).
- All zeros or blank: no wishlist activity that day, or the date is before Steam has data for the app.
- You pasted only a number on Any and got something else: pick Steam Financials, or paste your store URL.
- Want live player count? That's the Steam Game row and needs no key.
What we can and can't watch
- Can: the four daily wishlist numbers for one app per row.
- Can't: your all-time wishlist total, country or language splits, sales, revenue or player count.
Privacy
- Valve's docs say a Financial API key can read financial data for every app on your partner account. We only call wishlist reporting for the app id on the row.
- We store the key encrypted when you confirm. It is never sent to an AI model.
- To stop: remove the row in Configure (the minus button) to delete our copy. To kill the key itself, revoke or regenerate it on the group's page in Steamworks. (TODO: confirm the revoke control in Manage WebAPI Key.)
