GuidesSteam Game (player count)
Track Steam player count
How many people are playing a Steam game right now. Public data — no API key needed.
What you need
The game's app id: the number in its store URL (store.steampowered.com/app/<app id>/).
Connect
- Open Configure, Sources tab. In the top row, pick Steam Game.
- App id: enter the digits.
- Click Confirm (the check mark).
Pasting a store URL on Any sets up Steam Financials (wishlists) instead. Pick Steam Game, or say "player count".
What happens next
About once an hour (your plan may check less often) we read the current player count and chart it on your dashboards. Two games? Add two rows.
Common problems
- An error mentioning 404 or
result: 42: Steam doesn't publish a live player count for that app. That's common before launch and isn't a problem on our side. It starts working once Steam exposes the count.
What we can and can't watch
- Can: the current player count, sampled each check.
- Can't: wishlists (use Steam Financials), sales, reviews or peak-player history beyond what we sample.
Privacy
No account access and no key. We read Steam's public player-count API.
